ITchurch Vision
ITChurch is officially one year old! It’s been an odd year, and we wanted to thank you guys for stopping by over the past year and participating in our experiment. ITChurch has come along ways in some regards and in others it hasn’t quite turned out to what we hoped it would be. No this isn’t the spot where I tell you we are closing up shop and going home, it’s the time that I begin to share with where I see us going in the next 12 months and what our goals are, and hopefully how we’ll get there.
The truth is we have a very specific market we want to hit, non-profits and churches specifically that want to do more with their Information Technology. This isn’t a passing interest for us because after ITChurch is made up of IT professionals who work at a church. Currently, ITChurch is maintained by two people. Myself (Jim Edwards) and Shane Par-Due. Although my own writing has taken some time to develop and stay on topic I think we are finally at a place that it’s starting to work. However I felt it was imperative that I communicate what is on our heart and more importantly what we are looking from our audience to be able to accomplish those goals.
The ITChurch.com Vision
Over the next 12 months we’d like to see ITChurch develop a hybrid approach of containing content in a format much like a conventional magazine would with one or two lead stories and several reoccurring features such as hardware reviews, software picks, or web resources. We’ve already begun rolling out some of these features and as time and space permit we’ll begin rolling out more of them. With this comes the inevitable need to rework the layout of ITChurch.com. Our current layout works fine for what we have been doing, but if we want to go to more “magazine” approach we will need to workout a more portal type layout that will give our readers the ability to access a lot of information in a very small space. So to accomplish this we’ll begin by rolling out the new sections until we are busting at the seams… then we’ll begin rolling out the new look and feel.
Step One: Get Involved
You’ve probably already begun to ask the question, “How are you going to manage to post all this info with just two of you?” That’s a great question, and I’m glad you asked. We are going to have to get more writers. That’s where you could come in. If you work in the IT field, or do IT for a church in either a employee or volunteer status, we want you. You have something to offer, even if you think you don’t. And the reality is their are a ton of churches out their that don’t have anyone to help them. This is our opportunity to give back to the community and begin to build the Church into the new century. If your interested in writing for us, I encourage you to contact us right now!

Step Two: Let us stand on your shoulders
To be honest we really aren’t all that smart here at ITChurch.com. We need your story ideas, software picks, and hardware review. We encourage you to contact us with your ideas, picks, and reviews. If they are halfway good we might actually use them, and give you the credit for writing them…. And just think how proud your Mum will be when she sees your name in print, imagine what your High School English teacher will say, you know the one who said you were going to be single handedly responsible for destroying the English language. Contact us right now!

Step Three: Tell us how cool we are
OK you can tell us how much we suck, it’s ok we can take it. On a serious note, the beauty of the internet and especially blogs is the ability to create a comletely interactive medium. The more I interact with “new media” the more I begin to realize that television is dying. Teenagers are spending less and less time watching their TV and more and more watching youtube, facebook, and other social networking outlets. Blogging is a form of this new social community. It allows all of us to have a voice to speak out, share our minds, and learn new things. We want you to feel free, even encouraged to speak your mind on any post or topic. We’ll be looking for new way to make that happen down the road (I can’t give away all my secrets) but for now, lets start looking at our news and informational sources as a conversation instead of a talking point. Comment! Heck you can comment on this comment…
