You’ll flock to this one!
Last week a friend of mine in Israel IM’d me with a great software pick. And after only one week, I’ve completely adopted this new software, so when it came time to write this weeks software pick, I knew what I had to write about.
Flock 1.1 is a Mozilla based web-browser with a knack for social networking. Flock on the surface is just another Mozilla based browser, which behaves much like Firefox. However, the side bar is filled with interactivity for all your social networking needs. Here are just a few of the social networking sites you can access via the built in sidebar system:
People networks
- Facebook (my account)
- flickr (my account)
- twitter (my account)
- youtube
Media Sharing
- Photobucket
- Picasa
- Piczo
Blogging
- Blogger
- Blogsome
- LiveJournal
- Typepad
- Wordpress.com
- Xanga
- Self-hosted Blogs (itchurch & jim.edwardsdesign.org)
Online Favorites
- del.icio.us (my account)
- Magnolia
Webmail
- gmail
- Yahoo mail
The idea of being able to access my friends facebook updates, pictures, blogs, my links all from one interface goes without saying is fantastic.
Now I briefly mentioned the Blogging and picture interfaces but I should mention that the built in uploader for your social picture sites and local blog editing tool make Flock amazing!
As a bonus some of the Firefox plugins work great in Flock including “Downthemall” which is one I can’t live without.
So if your itching for a more “social” browser that can handle all your media needs, take Flock for a spin.
