Blogging from my desktop

By Jim Edwards • Jan 28th, 2008 • Category: Software, Software Pick of the week

I’ve spent months looking for a good tool that would allow me to write blog posts on the fly in any environment,….yes even an environment that didn’t have WI-FI. The thought makes me shutter…

Here’s the deal though, I’m a tight wad. Seriously, I refuse to spend money on things that I qualify as a want or luxury. An offline Blog-processor definitely falls under the want category, no so much in the need category…well till that day when my stupid browser locks up, and I just spent 30 min coming up with the most inventive and perfect use of the English language to describe how much I despise the fact that my wife’s Masterpiece Theater can only be played on the DVR that’s located in the living room with the larger TV when Romo is in for the fight of his young NFL life…..wait where was I?

I’ve tried a few…Ecto and MarsEdit, and a few others I can’t recall at this point. But none of them had that spit and polish that I wanted….That simplicity of use that I require. Completely by accident I ran across Qumana. Qumana has allowed me to manage my two blogs and insert my images. Qumana allows you to view your post in either WYSIWYG or Source View mode, assign categories, edit the Creation date, and control comment and track back options. And for for the feature that will make you quite reading this post entirely and go straight to qumana.com…..IT’S FREE, as in beer!

Now the only drawback I’ve experienced so far is that fact that Qumana doesn’t allow you to create new categories via the desktop application. I admit this is annoying, but after maintaining ITChurch.com for one year as of January 17th, I think we’ve got our categories nailed down.

If your looking for a good offline blog editor with the benefit of running on both Windows and OS X, I’d highly suggest Qumana.
