youversion.com version 2
Youversion.com recently released version 2.0 of their online Bible software which allows you to access several different bible versions and translations and allows you share views and links with other Youversion.com users in it’s “community contributions”. These features along with being able to record your own private “journal” entries regarding passages or just musing as you read, and having an iphone and Blackberry application; makes youversion.com a very attractive alternative as you central source to keep up with your daily reading.
However, I was rather disappointed that you couldn’t access or create journal entries in the right column while still reading your daily reading on the left. It seemed logical that I’d like to be able to write down my thought and prayer items while I’m reading a passage and certain things come to mind in different verses. However, as the site stands now, clicking on the “create journal” link takes you to a completely different page, leaving your location in your daily reading long gone.
Overall, I am really impressed with youversion.com’s new layout, and the improvements to navigation and scrolling passages in the Bible have greatly increased. My first impression of youversion.com prior to their remodel was, “great idea, but I’ll never use this, it’s way to difficult to simply scroll through a chapter!” They have really redeemed themselves with this latest update.
Now if we could just fix this journal editing issue, I’d be ready to drink the kool-aid and fall in love with this site. Hmmm… kool-aid drinking and religion…. one should usually not put these two things together… but I think you get the idea.
UPDATE: I just received an tweet from @terrystorch informing me that editing journals in the right hand column while viewing your daily reading on the left is a function they are currently working on and hope to have out with quite a few other new features soon! Whoo!
